Hazara University Organizes Three Day Conference on Computational Biology and Genomics


Hazara University Mansehra arranged three day conference on Computational Biology and Genomics in collaboration with Pakistan Science Foundation, Pakistan Scientific and Technical Information Centre and Higher Education Commission (HEC). Prof. Dr. Habib Ahmad, the Vice Chancellor Islamia College University Peshawar was the chief guest of the opening ceremony.  Prof. Dr. Muhammad Idrees, The Vice chancellor Hazara University welcomed the chief guest, scientists, researchers and other participants of the conference. The main aim of the conference was to invite the Scientists and Researchers from the whole country to present their papers and new ideas with students.

The conference started on 27th September at 9:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Hall of Hazara University. More than 30 Scientists and Researchers are invited to talk and share their ideas with participants including Prof. Dr. Shahid Baig, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Alam, Dr. Bushra Rashid, Dr. Faisal Khan, Dr. Joher Ali and many others.

The chief guest of the opening ceremony Prof. Dr. Habib Ahmad while addressing the conference said, “I congratulate Hazara University especially the Centre for Human Genetics for arranging such a huge event”. “This is an era of information technology. We have to upgrade our scientific laboratories and computational system in our research”, he added.

While addressing the conference Prof. Dr. Muhammad Idrees, the vice chancellor Hazara University said, “This new emerging field of Computational Biology and Genomics is an important field and it is the need of the hour to put all of our energies into research culture”. “I advise all the young energetic researchers to involve their selves in the field of research in its true spirit in order to compete with international researchers, he added.

The scientists and scholars had come from different universities of Pakistan including Peshawar University, Karachi University, LUMS, Punjab University, Agriculture University Peshawar, Women University Faisalabad, CECOS Peshawar, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Swat University and many more. They presented their topics explain its main themes, objectives and purposes.

The programme was divided into different sessions including plenary session, tea and Lunch break, Human Genomic, plants and Microbial Genomics.  On the second day the sessions were invited talk, Tea break, Biotechnology, Lunch break, poster presentation, computational Biology and trip to chattar plan. On the 3rd day of conference the sessions were two presentation of invited speakers and the next session was the closing ceremony of the programme. After invited talks the certificates were distributed among the speakers.

The closing ceremony was also arranged at the multi-purpose Hall of Hazara University. The Vice Chancellor of University of science and technology Abbottabad Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed was the chief guest of the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Prof. Dr. Iftikhar addressed the participants and shared his opinion on the computational Biology and Human Genomics. He appreciated the hard work of the director of Centre of Human Genetics and chief organizer of the conference.

Talking to The Campus Observer, the chief organizer Dr. Ilyas said, “Many great scientists and researchers participated in the conference and they have got big achievements in their fields. We want to keep a platform of networking with other universities and scientists”. Due to this type of projects we will connect with one another and work better for the promotion of Genomics field in Pakistan, he added.
